What is your IP Address?

IP Address

The “IP” inside the word IP address is mean by “Internet Protocol”. While, the word “address” refers to a unique number that gets linked to all online activity you do. It is like a return address on a letter you’d send out. All this happens very fast. It also work as an identity to a networked device on the Internet. Devices on a network are differentiated from one another through IP addresses.

Types of IP Address

Private IP Adress

– This are used inside the network such as home network. Usually it is used by devices like tablets, Wi-fi cameras, wireless printers, and desktop PCs.
– It is also a way for devices to communicate to each other and with the router on the home private network.
– It also can be set manually or assigned automatically by the router.

Public IP Address

– These are used outside of the network and it is assigned by Internet Service Provider (ISP).
– Usually home and business network uses this address.
– It is uses to communicate with the rest of the networked devices around the world, such as the internet.
– It allows the devices to access websites and communicate directly with other computers and servers around the world.

How to find your IP Address?
  • First, press the windows button on the keyboard.
  • Then, type cmd and click on Command Prompt window.
  • After the Command Prompt window appear, type “ipconfig” and press “Enter”.
  • Look for “Default Gateaway” under your network adapter for your router’s IP address.
  • Look for “IPv4 Address” under the same adapter section to find your computer’s IP address. If you use a virtual private network for your business, its connection will have its own section and list your proxy IP address under “IPv4 Address.”
  • Use the command “Nslookup” followed by your business domain to look up its server’s IP address. If the server has multiple IP addresses associated with the name, the command will list all of them. As an example, you might enter “nslookup google.com” to find a list of Google’s IP addresses.
  • Use the “Tracert” command followed by your business domain to list all server IP addresses between your computer and your website. As an example, you might enter “tracert google.com” to find the IP address of each server between your computer and Google’s website.
